ACTIVATION
See our full guide here
It is a very simple process to activate. Once in NZ, just put the SIM in your phone, and call '200' (ie dial 200) and follow a few short prompts.
PLAN
The preloaded NZD$19 Carry over Combo pack will definitely be enough to get you going- but you can easily add more credit to buy extra data or calling packs
It gives you 1GB data, 150 minutes NZ/Aust calling, and unlimited NZ/Aust SMS.
You can check the micro-detail or for any updates on the plan info direct at 2degrees prepaid here
EXPIRY
Your 30 days to use the preloaded pack starts when the SIM connects to the network for the first time (eg you put in your phone a few days prior to leaving- give it a min or two and it will connect to the roaming network partner (Telstra in Aust) - your 30 days has started, and you have also confirmed your phone isn't locked.
Most people only go for 10 days, so they don't need to do anything, other than adding a bit of extra credit for a data pack. If you were requiring the SIM for more than the first month, just add a bit more credit and it will renew :-)
EXTRA DATA
Need extra data whilst in NZ with your 2degrees SIM?
There are three main extra data packs available:

NZD$20 - 1GB
NZD$50 - 3GB
Aussie data roaming packs
Want to take your 2degrees NZ prepaid SIM to Australia and have the data work there?
There are two main data packs for prepaid data:
NZD$10 - 300MB
NZD$15 - 500MB
More info on the data pack available direct at 2degrees site here
COVERAGE
2degrees have their own network, and sometimes roam to Voda NZ where no coverage.
2degrees network is not quite as big as Spark (formerly telecom NZ), but still covers most places adequately. Note NZ is a very hilly/mountainous country, this does create a challenge for any network to provide seamless coverage in those areas.
See more detail on 2degrees coverage here
(click tab in top left of map for LTE/4G/3G/2G etc)
TETHERING
The SIMs have no restrictions around them for uses such as in data-hotspots (which requires tethering).
INTERNATIONAL RATES AND CALL PACKS
Direct-dial and land line rates vary (depending on destination) - from around NZD$0.90+
See the specific rates here
It is more economical to either make the calls via apps like Skype (which just uses data plus some credit on your Skype account), or buy a 2degrees international call pack like the NZD$10 that gives 300 minutes of calls to 20 destinations landlines and mobiles in selected countries. See the detail direct on 2degrees site - best to purchase this post arrival in NZ, via their online portal or app.
