Low cost data NOW 80+ countries

Globalgig offers a great solution for data-weary travellers.

Options to get connected:

- SIM only
This is perfect if you have a 3G iPad/tablet you want to put the SIM in and go travelling with (it can work in phones but you have to set the APN - see activation guide for full details).

Remember the SIM is data only, so don't expect call or SMS functionality, however you can use a bunch of VOiP (Skype or Viber) or messaging apps (WhatsApp or iMessage).

- Hotspot
The hotspot includes a free SIM and enables up to 5 devices to connect and use the internet through the local WiFi signal it emits. The first edition of Globalgig WiFi hotspots sold out Australia wide. We now stock a unlocked 4G high battery capacity hotspot instead. See full details for this hotspot here.

FREE INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING DOES NOT apply to any order including a hotspot.

You must select the Express International Post option in checkout (AUD$29) if you want a hotspot delivered outside Australia - otherwise your order will be cancelled and refunded.

Name: Globalgig Data Roaming SIM or Hotspot

UPDATE: Globalgig changed their rates 14/03/2016
All rates going forward are as per the updated rates below/see their website.

Due to a huge number of troubles with activating their new SIMs, and the ongoing problems with their service, we no longer recommend Globalgig and instead would suggest the dataGOroaming SIM or the Skyroam hotspot.

If you would like to upgrade to a plan with larger data inclusions, please contact Customer Service.

Important information about where your service will work:
Some older Globalgig SIMs do not support the full 100+ footprint. If you need to use your service outside of Australia, USA and Europe, please contact Customer Service a minimum of 1 week before you travel to ensure you have the latest SIM card with the 100+ country footprint.

Important Information
  1. Included Data: will be counted in 1KB increments and includes both uploads and downloads for use in Australia. Unused data does not rollover.
  2. Out of plan data: is automatically charged in 1MB increments. We may limit additional data available to you at these rates. If you use more than this we may continue to charge you at the same rates or restrict your data use that month.
  3. Coverage: With 3G devices, you can access our 3G (UMTS 2100 MHz / 900 MHz) network. With 4G devices and a compatible plan, you can access our 3G network plus some or all of our 4G network in Australia and the UK. Our 4G network will use multiple frequencies (FDD LTE 700 / 1800 / 2100 / 2600 MHz / TD LTE 2300 MHz) to provide coverage. Coverage availability will vary depending on your device and location. Compatibility: When you bring your own device, make sure it’s not locked to other networks and is compatible with the Optus network. Refer to your device user guide for specifications.
  4. Speed: Many factors affect speed such as internet traffic, your hardware and software, the source of the download and your location.
  5. Usage and Spend notifications are a best efforts service. Occasionally notifications may be late due to delays in receiving data records from our network partners.

Data in Australia
Purchasing your Globalgig SIM gives you access to low cost mobile data on the Globalgig Network. In Australia, Globalgig is powered by the Optus 4G Network and when travelling outside of Australia by our network partners in each of our connected countries.

Data overseas

Your SIM will give you access to the Globalgig network when you arrive at your destination so you can enjoy hassle free data services. Simple follow the easy to use instructions when you arrive at your destination and you will be online in no time! And that's just the start of the revolution as we keep adding more countries and services to deliver greater value to our customers. We'll let you know as soon as new countries are added and how you can access them.

Make sure you are on the correct plan to suit your needs, and is included for coverage of where you are travelling to.

Networks used overseas include:
- 3 Network; in UK, Austria, Denmark, Hong Kong, Ireland, Italy
- T-Mobile; SIM only product in the USA
- Sprint CDMA; Hotspot product in the USA

Important info on SIM only product

The Globalgig SIM will only work in devices that are not locked to a network provider.
The Globalgig SIM is specifically designed for use in cellular enabled tablets, and is compatible with iPad, iPad mini, iPad air and many Android tablets including Samsung Galaxy Note and TAB and Windows 8 Tablets.

Globalgig is now able to offer tethering/personal hotspot functionality on iPads and iPhones in only certain countries. For example in Aust, it will only allow the iPad to tether, not iPhone...other countries sometimes it is allowed on both, sometimes not (even on iPad), therefore the safest way to have ability to tester/hotspot is to have a hotspot device.

APN
If using the SIM direct in phone/tablet Globalgig SIM requires setting the APN profile. For all SIMs activated after the 31st July 2014 you can use the one APN: mbb.voiamo.net
Hotspot devices sold will have this APN set for the device, so you only have to register/activate the SIM, insert the SIM into the hotspot, and turn it on and connect to its WiFi signal.

ACTIVATION

Our full FAQ and activation guide is here (including step-by-step screenshots).

Important info on Hotspot product

The Globalgig Hotspot is not locked. If you are travelling to a non-Globalgig connected country you may be able to use your Hotspot with a data plan from a local GSM carrier.

Your Hotspot is already configured with a default password, which you will find in the user guide. When you connect your Hotspot for the first time you must change your password to something only you know to prevent unauthorised people accessing your Hotspot.

Activating your SIM or Hotspot

1) Activate SIM
Before you can use your Globalgig SIM or hotspot you need to activate your service.
Go to www.globalgig.com.au/Activate
(OR go to home page and click activate in top right hand corner)

Enter the ICCID as shown then click on the Next button, and choose from one of the great domestic or international data plans. Then follow the online instructions to register your details and activate your service (for full screenshots of the process - see below).

Globalgig will charge your nominated credit/debit card for your first month’s data plan access fee when they activate your Globalgig service. Activation can take up to 2 hours (normally about 20 min). Sometimes it says that you will be notified of when it is active, however this notification is not received but the SIM is active.

2) Using your SIM or hotspot overseas
For data to flow through your SIM the APN has to be correctly. Quite a lot of the time it might automatically set and just work, but for any reason data doesn’t work, setting the APN should be the main fix (note, most hotspots don’t set automatically).

If you are using the Globalgig WiFi hotspot, activate the SIM (see below) pop it in, and simply turn on the hotspot and it will connect to the network partner; you then connect to the hotspot’s WiFi signal and get online. dataGO sets all hotspots it sells with the Globalgig APN set, if using a different hotspot make sure you set APN. See more detail in the hotspot setup guide here.

Tablet users
If you are using the Globalgig SIM with your tablet, turn on your device and ensure that the Access Point Name (APN) is set to: mbb.voiamo.net

No username or password - just leave it blank

iPad users
Go to Settings > Cellular Data > APN Settings > and type in mbb.voiamo.net
Once you've done this, restart your device.

Android users
Go to Settings > More Settings > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names.
If no APN is available select the menu icon in the top right hand corner and select +New APN and type mbb.voiamo.net

iPhone users
Sometimes there is an issue with the iPhone connecting to the network without locking the APN.
There is a very simple to get around this by setting an APN 'profile'. Just visit:

http://www.unlockit.co.nz/ (in Safari on iPhone)

Select 'Create APN' (in blue in middle at bottom of page)
Select 'Country' > 'Australia' & for 'Carrier' > 'GlobalGig' - see more details and screenshots below on this (remember if you lock the APN, you have to remove the lock if you take the SIM out).
See STEP-BY-STEP activation guide with screenshots in here.
All orders are eligible for free shipping.
