Japan APN

New APN for Japan Nano and Micro SIMs sent after Nov 10 2015

We recommend to do Step 1 in a WiFi zone before you leave home.

Step 1. Set the APN – see detailed steps below

& Step 2 when you arrive in Japan
Step 2. Insert Your SIM into Your Device

  • Turn your device off
  • ​Insert your SIM card into your device
  • Turn your device back on

For iPhone 5 to 7 models, and other devices with iOS7 or later

  • Open the link below in Safari
  • APN configuration profile (For iOS7 or later) 
  • Tap "Install" in the "Install Profile" screen.
  • (If it asks for Passcode, it should be the same as the unlock code for your device unless specifically set)

For other iOS devices​

  • Open the link below in Safari
  • APN configuration profile (For iOS6 or earlier) 
  • Tap "Install" in the "Install Profile" screen.
  • (If it asks for Passcode, it should be the same as the unlock code for your device unless specifically set)

For iOS devices: Remove the APN after you leave Japan
IMPORTANT: After returning home
You will need to remove the APN profile after you leave Japan and put your normal SIM back in. To do this you should go to:

1. Navigate to the "Profile" screen on your iPhone: "Setting" → "General" → "Profile"
2. Tap "Remove"

For Android devices
  • Go to Settings > Wireless & networks > Cellular networks > Access Point Names
  • Create a new APN
  • Enter the below APN information and save it
APN: soracom.io
Username: [blank] ie leave blank
Password: [blank]
Authentication type: CHAP

Troubleshooting
  • Create a new APN again
  • Restart the device
  • Sometimes setting it as PAP instead of CHAP gets it working

FAQS / Tips:

PIN, PIN Unlock Code
PIN 1 code and PIN 2 code are set to “0000” as default
The SIM card will be locked if you fail to enter the correct PIN code 3 times in a row.
In order to unlock it, you will need the PUK code. Please contact us if this happens.
Most newer phones don’t ask for this ‘SIM PIN’ anymore, and this is specifically not referring to the passcode required to unlock your device – that stays the same.
